Coaching Carousel

I really like Hafley even though this year was disappointing. I think Hafley is genuine about wanting to stay for a while, he doesn’t come off as a fake self serving coach like a Bobby Petrino. Still have a chance to earn that 7th win and Garwo to add to his stats. Hafley has a steady pipeline of back to back great recruiting classes, so the talent will be there next year.

Does his wording (“I do not plan on leaving…”) raise eyebrows? Seems like none of the coaches plan on changing jobs, until one is offered to them. I personally do not think he is going anywhere.

I read that sentence and had the same reaction you did to Hafley's use of the word "plan" as either an informal, colloquial form of speech or a dead giveaway. I blame this rumor on all the opinion-based sports journalists on social media looking for clicks.

Jeff is a young, unseasoned head coach, and this rumor was ridiculous. Hafley is 0-7 against the top 25 teams and he needs more time in the proverbial oven. Once he wins an ACC Championship, he becomes an instant hot commodity, if not sooner by winning the ACC Coastal. One caveat, once that happens, BC better be ready to extend his contract in a meaningful way because if they fail to do that, he'll jump.

Nope, plan could also be interpreted as “Fired”, he doesn’t plan on leaving unless he is dismissed by BC.

All of BC’s recent coaches have been fired for poor performance (Daz/Spaz/Henning), Jags for having an ego bigger than GDF (although I maintain he wasn’t a good coach). TOB left on his own accord after a successful rebuild and consistent good, not great results. Then there’s Coughlin, the only one on the list who got better every year and then left for a better job. Even that was only after a single 9 win season, which is hardly the stuff of legend.

TOB had great results. He had to face the biased officiating that Hafley has to now. Several games were stolen from BC ( FSU, Wake and NC St.) during the TOB era, The refs cheated BC this year in the Clemson, Wake and NC St. games. TOB overcame that hurdle and Hafley can too.

Sorry, None looks desirable. To be honest, I don't think even Notre Dame would be desirable, if his plan is on schedule at BC.

This list and now Brian Kelly leaving ND to go to LSU, had me thinking Kraft wanted to put an end to rumors circulating social media around Hafley.

I am glad it’s done. Thanks, Fr Leahy
